The Invisible Man

The Invisible man was a novel that was a little rough around the edges. It was about a young man dealing with racism. The subject of Racism is always hard, especially for someone who becomes comfused. The young man in this story thought at some points that his actions was to do whatever he seen his teacher do. Which confused him alot.

I remember in one part of the story a Jamaican man confronts him and ask him why is he protecting this white man. I think a part of him didn't know what to do whether to fight him or join the Rastaman. When a person is confused their life gets turned upside down.

The House of The Spirits

The House of The Spirits was a beautiful novel that shows women freewill instead of cowardness. Alba went against all odds and learned to become a strong woman in life. She went against her grandfather and got involved in political parties that he was against. When her grandfather ran and recieved a public office he became hostile and pushy, he also in a way pushed her away.

In the end they get together: Alba and her grandfather. Just before he dies, they have talks of how life should go for her and he tells her that she should leave the country. But she opposes, and he figures that the reason that she won't leave is because she loves Miguel. But then he dies in her arm which was a perfect end to the novel

The Awakening

The Awakening was a story that I did not like to much, it was kidda boring in the beginning to be honest. This lady was a total asshole who wanted everything and couldn't satisfy herself. She had a beautiful family with children who she didn't love, not saying that she wouldn't take care of them, but she didn't bond with them how a mother should. She had a boyfriend who still couldn't satisfy her maybe he was a little small in the bedroom, just a minor joke.

I feel as if she seen life as painful, depressing, and cruel; if I were a doctor I would diagnosis her as clinically depress, and suffering from mild anxiety attacks. I guess that why she wanted to feel free from all of this so-called suffering, so she took her life by drowning in the ocean. The waves, smell, and the calmness of the ocean made her feel like one.

Antigone

Antigone is an epic story of strenght and courageousness of one powerful woman who went against all to disobey her uncle Creon who was king. Creon had made a public statement that all of the kingdom was to follow, and that was that Antigone's brothers should not be burried, and whoever tried to bury them would be killed. This was an insult to her family name. Creon was also visited by a prophet who told him that the city would suffer if raven ate at the bones of the dead.

Antigone in the end was killed, because she buried her brothers and went against Creon's wishes. She proved to Creon that she wasn't scared of him and that family was the most important thing to her, and that she was Queen material.

Yellow Wallpaper

The Yellow Wallpaper is a story of male domination over woman. It is about a husband who is extremly over protected of his wife, but he doesn't think he is. He feels that he is keeping her healthy by withdrawing her from her daily task which were nothing basically. He kept her locked up in her room, only to look at yellow wallpaper, which would drive anyone nutts. She begin to rip at this wallpaper and write down her thought. But when anyone came to look or check-up on her she hides it.

In the end she becomes free, this is what I don't understand. Do she kill herself after she gets out of her room. Do both her and her husband die. But in the end I'm happy she becomes free anyway she sees it.

Frederick Douglas

The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas was inciteful and interesting, it showed me the way slaves were treated during the 1800s. I believe he wrote this autobiograpy to show what it is like to be controlled and how you can overcome extreme hardships in your lives.

Like in the beginning of the story Douglas tells us about his background how his first master was cruel and heartless and how his mother died and he never knew her. Douglas learned how to read which set me free from all his tormentors. He was taught how to read by giving food to local white boys, which made him open his eyes to the outside world instead of just his plantation life.
